Mt. Mercy University Receives a Top Spot on “Best Colleges” Ranking

Mount Mercy University

Mount Mercy University received one of Iowa’s top spots on Money magazine’s “Best Colleges” ranking, beating out every other Iowa school in the list’s value-added category. The Time-affiliated magazine ranked Mount Mercy 147 out of 1,500 four-year colleges and named the university one of “The 50 Best Colleges That You Can Actually Get Into.”

The rankings were based on 21 factors in three equally-weighted categories: educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings.

Mount Mercy received an “A” in the value-added category, which “reflects how well a school’s students perform, versus expectations for students with similar economic and academic backgrounds,” according to Money’s website.

“This ranking shows exactly what sets an education from Mount Mercy apart from any other school in the state,” said President Laurie Hamen. “Combining academic excellence with compassionate service, Mount Mercy students achieve many times beyond their expectations in and out of the classroom. Some of the schools made the list because they accept great students; Mount Mercy made the list because we accept great students and add value to their education while enriching their lives.”

Mount Mercy was also named one of “The 50 Best Colleges That You Can Actually Get Into,” which ranked the top colleges that accept a majority of its applicants.

“Mount Mercy is a quality, accessible, student-focused university,” Hamen said. “It’s usual for our students to undertake research, complete internships, publish work and serve their community. These excellent opportunities lead to experience, and experience is what gets our graduates great jobs. I think these rankings acknowledge that.”
